Voca Pickleball held a Pre-Holidays Party on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at the Peddler’s Biergarten Restaurant and 37 members with their guests attended. A cocktail hour kicked off the party followed by dinner. The musical duo Him & Me provided the entertainment and the dance floor got a good workout! As we have had a number of new members join this year, it was a great way to mix and mingle with them. Everyone had a great time and are all looking forward to our next get together.

The first ever VOCA Pickleball Round Robin Tournament was held Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, at the VOCA courts. Having fun and promoting VOCA Pickleball were the goals of the tournament. The tournament consisted of 16 players who played 6 games each. Players rotated to play with different partners on different courts and accumulated points won and games won. Various pickleball companies donated banners and raffle prizes which helped to enhance the tournament. Because it was Halloween, many participants dressed in costume or wore orange and black to make it a really fun day! The winners of the tournament were as follows: 1st Place - Edgar Cordivin, 2nd Place – Jeff Kleiman, 3rd Place – Rod Ostrand, and 4th Place – Rich Jones. All of the players, spectators, and tournament organizers had a great day, and all are looking forward to doing another tournament soon!

In late summer of 2021, members of the Voca Pickleball Group presented a proposal to the House & Grounds Committee to construct and install a practice board on the pickleball courts. The idea behind the practice board was to improve the skill level of our players and enhance the experience of playing pickleball at VOCA.

The project was approved and the practice board was installed in September of 2021. Rich Jones was most instrumental in drawing up the design, constructing, and installing the board. Joanne Sigrist prepared the written proposal and helped gather information on materials and estimates for products used to construct the board. On September 17, 2021, the new completed practice board was unveiled to the pickleball group. It is now being used by players of all skill levels.
